Video Transcript for Performance Tool Carbon Fiber Digital Caliper Review

Today we'll be looking at the Performance Tool four inch carbon fiber digital caliper. Part number PTW80157. This allows you to read from 0 to 4 inches or 0 to 100 millimeters. It moves in 100ths of an inch or 1/10ths of a millimeter. It has a nice LED screen. You hit the on button and it's easy to read.

You can switch between millimeters and inches. Right now it's in inches and now it's in millimeters. Just by the touch of a button. We also have our zero capability so when we move it down our measurement tool, if we want to measure something and see the difference between another measurement, we can hit the zero button and it shows us the difference. This is a negative distance or a positive distance.

Take it back to zero and hit the zero button again so we can start back from zero inches or zero millimeters. This allows us to measure the outside diameter or the inside dimensions with the other side. Now we can show you in action. On our trailer here, we pulled off our seal. Usually it's stamped with the measurements on it, but this one has worn off over time. WE can use our tool to find the inner dimension of our race.

2.18 inches. If we need to figure out the outside diameter, that'll be 3.35 inches. Other measurements that we might need to know. Come to our shaft. We've got the bearings that sit on our shaft so we might need to know the diameter of our shaft.

We can come up, be 1.24 inches and that'll be for our inner or our outside bearing. If we need to figure out our other, the larger bearing, the inside bearing, we do the same thing. 1.74 inches. Now if we need to know the difference between the two, we come up we get the inside bearing, we hit our zero button, that zeros it out, and we can come to our outside bearing and we see there's almost a half inch difference between the two bearing sizes. Same works if you want to figure out the dimensions here for our race because that's where it sits. This is where our race sits. If I want to do difference in that. I'll take our meter, I'll measure the inside diameter of our race, I'll hit the zero button, and then I can come and measure the outside distance of our race and see if there's any difference at all. Which, there's not, but if there was it would show us. There would be a negative difference or if I measure something bigger, it would show us a positive difference. That's it for a look at the Performance Tool 4 inch carbon fiber digital caliper. Part number PTW80157.Speaker 2: You can find this and everything else right here at etrailer.com What's up man.

Good product

by:

It works great and it's just plain fun. I bought it to measure bearing buddies and spindles. It works for that but it also has been great for measuring the diameter of carbon fiber tubes I'm using to build a sailboat mast and spars.

It gives instant metric to inch conversions - just push the in/mm button and the measurement in the display converts.

I've used it at least a couple of hundred times and it's still on the original battery.

Pro tip: Close it all the way before you turn it on.

I have always wanted a digital caliper now I have one. I have always relied on my older read out types since this is the one etrailer uses I will be able to take the same measurements they do . My local bearing supplier has priced themselves out of the market so I use etrailer !

by:

A very nice useful tool. First one I got had a malfunction and the company sent me another one right away

  • How to Determine Bearings for 2008 Forest River Rockwell Ultra Lite
I am not able to cross reference that part number for your trailer. There are two ways to get your correct axle bearings; one is to pull the hub and remove the rear seal carefully so you can get the correct seal number and bearings. The seal will have a part number on it as will the face of both the inside and outside bearing. The other option is to use a digital caliper like # PTW80157 to measure the spindle in those 3 locations. I've attached a photo to assist.

  • How To Measure To Replace Damaged Trailer Spindle
We do not carry repair sleeves unfortunately. If the damage is severe you may consider replacing the spindle with a new one. I have attached a link of the spindles that we carry. If you follow the chart at the top of the page it easy to figure out the replacement. You will need a digital caliper like part # PTW80157 to measure the spindle. I have attached that diagram to this answer as well. I highly recommend to consider replacing it because a damaged spindle can eventually lead to bearing...

  • Replacement Wheel Bearings for Henschen Dura Flex 3.5K Axles
Henschen has been out of business for about 12 years, so I wasn't able to find much information about your axles online. From what I saw in the forums, they used a standard spindle for a 3.5K axle, so it should use a L44649 outer and a L68149 inner bearing. The grease seal should be a standard 10-19 double lip seal. You can confirm this by checking the cages on your wheel bearings which should have the reference numbers mentioned above etched on them. If you can't find reference numbers,...

  • How to Determine Which Wheel Bearings are Needed for Trailer Axles
I was unable to find any specific information about your trailer but I can help you determine which bearings you will need. If you have the old bearings they should be stamped on the back with the part number. If you do not have them or the number isn't legible you'll have to measure the inner diameter of the bearings or the diameter of the spindle where the bearings sit. I recommend using a digital caliper like # PTW80157 because you will want to make sure your measurements are as precise...

  • Recommended Brake Assemblies for Karavan Boat Trailer with 3500 lb Axle
For your brake assemblies, I recommend the Demco Hydraulic Brake Kit - Free Backing - Galvanized - 10" - Left/Right Hand Assemblies - 3.5K # 40716-15. These galvanized assemblies will work very well for saltwater or freshwater use, resisting corrosion. The free backing design allows you to back up without using the lockout on your coupler. This will absolutely fit your 3500 lb axle. For your Bearing Buddies, bearings, and seals, you very likely have the standard size 84 spindle but...

What you need will depend on your axle capacity. Most of the Elite utility trailers will use a 3500 lb axle in tandem for a total capacity of 7,000 lbs. If this is the case, then you will want the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 3,500 lbs # AKEBRK-35-SA. This size axle often uses the same spindle and is compatible with the Bearing Kit for #84 Spindle, L44649/L68149 Bearings, 10-19 Double Lip Seal # BK2-100. I've attached a photo to...

From our experience the Ranger Trail Boat Trailers like your 2003 Ranger Trail R61 use inner bearing # L68149 and outer bearing # L44649 but you will want to confirm this by verifying which inner and outer bearings your trailer uses. You can determine which bearing combination your trailer uses by pulling one of the hubs and looking for the bearing numbers stamped on the face of the inner and outer bearing as shown in the included picture of the # L44649. Unfortunately, there is no documentation on the hubs and bearings for a 1996 EZ Loader Trailer. However, there is a way to determine what you need. You will have to disassemble your hubs and read the numbers on the bearings, races, and seals to determine the correct replacement. I have linked to a video demonstration of how to do this below. If you cannot read the numbers, you can use a digital caliper like part # PTW80157 to measure the inner diameter, which will help in determining...

Unfortunately I haven't been able to cross reference based on that number. The best thing you can do to get the correct replacement is to measure it with a digital caliper. I looked up some specs on your 2005 Karavan BW-2350-74-ST and based on its GVWR it more than likely uses a 3,500lb axle, though I HIGHLY recommend verifying this first since trailer manufacturers like to just use random axles they have laying around. Assuming it is in fact a 3,500lb axle you'll need bearing kit # BK2-100, but you can confirm this by checking the axle tag on the center of the axle beam to see what the axle rating is, or if the tag is missing which is likely due to the trailers...

I do have a solution, but wheels with a 4 x 3.75 bolt pattern are not available. You may be able to find some wheels that match at a junk yard but nobody makes them anymore. That being said, I recommend switching the hubs on your trailer to hubs with a modern 4 on 4 bolt pattern. To choose a replacement hub you will need to find out which bearings you currently have.
